Flower Carpet Roses
Many times referred to as the "Wonder Rose", the Flower Carpet® ground cover roses are some of the most popular roses available in the world today. This is because of their long flowering period, easy care and exceptional disease resistance.  They also come in a wide range of beautiful colors!

Over 35 years of breeding by Noack Rosen has gone into the development of these disease tolerant, easy care, free flowering beauties. Great planted en mass in the landscape or in a group in the garden. They are some of the most brilliant roses available.

How do I fertilize Flower Carpet roses?
Any plant that pushes out the amount of flowers a Flower Carpet rose does needs food. For maximum flowering and performance, feed with a balanced rose food. It is best not to feed roses in Fall and Winter as extra nutrients then will force new growth and increase the chances of cold-damage over Winter.  In cold climates like WNY: feed in Spring and Summer.

What are the most popular uses of Flower Carpet roses?
Flower Carpet roses are perfect for flower beds, mass plantings, large containers, landscapes, hanging baskets, and as tree roses. They make perfect commercial landscaping plants for low maintenance color.

What about Japanese beetles and aphids?
As a woody perennial, Flower Carpet roses can be attacked by pests such as Japanese beetles and aphids. The best defense is regular food and watering to keep the plant robust, and, if infested, treatment with either an organic or conventional insecticide is recommended.

Does disease tolerance mean Flower Carpet roses are immune?
Flower Carpet roses are among the most disease resistant roses ever bred – but they aren’t invincible. Flower Carpet can develop black spot or mildew, especially if a plant is in stress ( such as when planted in the first year before the plants can establish its water absorbing tap roots). Once established and settled in, Flower Carpet roses are very robust and unlikely to suffer unduly.  The Western New York Rose Society recommends a product called Immunox to help prevent black spot and mildew.  You can find it at Adams Nurseries.

Do Flower Carpet roses need frequent watering?
All roses are thirsty and Flower Carpet roses are no exception. We recommend regular watering.

Do I have to prune Flower Carpet roses?
These roses don’t need fancy pruning - just cut canes back to 10 inches annually in late winter or early spring, or trim to shape anytime you feel like it. It should be as easy as giving them a once over with the hedge shears.

Do I have to plant Flower Carpet roses in full sunlight?
Flower Carpet roses like the sun. For best bloom, plant in full sun. Flower Carpet roses will also grow well in partial shade (4 to 5 hours of sun per day) with reduced blooms. In areas of intense dry heat and sun, plant in semi-shade/filtered light.

Growing Tips:
Any time you trim your roses, just give them a handful of fertilizer or add some liquid feeding around the plant. The reason: when you cut the plant back, it then triggers new growth, and at this time the plants are looking for that added food to ensure you get a great burst of blooms again.

Do you love cut flowers? These are fabulous for picking because they are bright and colorful and they last a long time! Cut a small spray for a posy vase, the Pink variety are especially pretty. Try different colour combinations, you will be surprised at how good they look together. Pink and Yellow look great together, a combination of White and Pink also look fabulous.

Companion Plants
Flower Carpet® Roses look great planted with low growing or spreading conifers - particularly those with golden or blue/gray foliage - and dwarf cypresses for height.

For a more formal design try edging your beds of Flower Carpet® Roses with clipped hedges of box.

A soft billowing effect can be obtained with an edging of Nepata (Catnip) whose feathery gray foliage and soft blue flowers are the perfect foil for all the colors of the Flower Carpet® Rose Series.

A hedge of lavender is a wonderful, fragrant backdrop to a planting of Flower Carpet® roses and can be complimented with an edging of Stachys Byzantium (Lamb’s Ears) to continue the color theme.

Underplant your Flower Carpet® roses with early spring flowering bulbs such as Daffodils and Jonquils. These will provide color when your Flower Carpet® roses have had their annual trimming and will have died down well before your roses burst into bloom in late spring.
